NYC

New York City- Week 1, Take 1

I finally moved to NY. The city. The hub of the western world...I feel unworthy. Lies. I feel completely worthy, and have been trying to hold back the largest smile i've ever smiled. I did it. I suppose that's the best way to put it. I had so many doubts and dreams about making it to NYC in an apartment I would pay for on my own...and here I am. Washington Heights, I am the resident white boy in the neighborhood, as it is populated vastly by Puerto Rican, Dominican, Haitian, and various other ethnicities. Let me tell you there is going to be a learning curve, all local mom and pop stores up here, everything written/spoken in spanish, and debit cards will do you no good. Not that I can even really afford the cereal at the grocery...6 dollars ON SALE! That's going to take some getting used to, and i'll be looking for the secret money saver options around town, basically just need to learn the ways. I've been exploring, catching up with old friends, and getting set up in the apartment, which, by the way, is so excellent. I signed a lease on paper without seeing the apartment and with a little Phil Crumrine Dumb Luck I landed the best deal I could've hoped for. A room as big as I need, a view of the Hudson/George Washington Bridge to kill, excellent and responsible roommates...all at an incredibly affordable price. The neighborhood seems very safe too, which is a plus for the late night walks home. I went from 0 (in the woods of Maine) to 80 (dropped in the center of NYC) in about 3 seconds and haven't slowed down since. I've been all over this island, and already had a first job interview for a Bartending position downtown. It went really well, and I was already tipped off that they're looking for a way to hire me. Things certainly have a way of aligning real quick. I am hoping to hit the audition circuit starting next week, Nancy has lined up an audition for me, and i'll be checking out a few EPA's. Also going to Boston next week for an audition next weekend, and oh man am I looking forward to that. Boston is going to be a great escape for me, and I am SERIOUSLY missing my babe. Stef and I have decided to go for the distance, and so far, so good. We're communicating well and often, and will be splitting the inconvenience of travel so no one is working too hard for the other. We're going to be fine, just this first week is burning pretty good, 9 months together nearly everyday and now a week without more than 5 minutes on Skype. It's definitely one of MANY adjustments i'm going to be making in the coming months, and unfortunately one that I look forward to the least. It's hard to figure out a sleep cycle and routine when you're unemployed and in a city as exciting as New York at 23 years old. I'm getting so much done daily, and taking good care of myself, but days seem so long and I'm not filling them with television or other crap at the moment, i'm trying to stay focused and busy...thats the way to success, pick a direction and go. Like a dog to a bone. Shout out to Ken Baltin for being a great professor. I digress. Becca, this is for you, you asked for a blog. I've got no babies or chubby tummy to show, so I'll leave the maternity clothes and baby birthing to you.

This is going to be THE year of my life. I can feel it.
